Photographing what does not happen twice
Documentary series on the tidal floods of the Semarang coast, the hands of the batik makers of Lasem, and families who want to be photographed in their own homes.
Four series, and who is in them
Tidal floods, Tambak Lorok
Families in Tambak Lorok who raise the floors of their homes every few years as the sea keeps rising.
The same three families photographed every August since 2018. The series is still running.
Johar market before dawn
Vegetable sellers who arrive at three in the morning, before the market lights come on.
Twenty eight photographs, all lit by what the sellers brought themselves: torches, motorbike lamps and oil lamps.
The hands of Lasem's batik makers
Portraits of the hands of hand batik makers in Lasem, photographed where they work.
Twelve makers, every one of whom saw and approved the final photograph before it was published.
Families in their own homes
Commissioned portrait sessions in the family's own home, with no studio and no arranged poses.
Three hours, thirty finished photographs, delivered within seven days.
