Every node, still reporting

The board above is the shape of network I usually install: one node for each device on this page, reporting to one LoRa gateway, with alarms and any node that has gone quiet visible at a glance. The values are simulated; the ranges come from the real sensors.

Nine years in the field

312 nodes installed and still reporting
9 years years installing monitoring
14 months months average battery life in the field
2 nodes ever lost, both to flooding

The three devices installed most often

Warehouse temperature monitor

For food and medicine stores that must log temperature. Four sensor points, reporting every three minutes, with a WhatsApp alarm when a threshold is crossed for more than ten minutes.

ESP32SHT31 sensorsLoRa SX127618650 battery5 W solar panel

Installed in 28 warehouses, reporting every three minutes. The logs are used for audits and have never been rejected by one.

Water tank monitor

Measures water level without touching the water, with an ultrasonic sensor in the tank lid. Used by housing complexes and boarding schools whose pumps run for nothing.

ESP32JSN-SR04T sensorpump relayLoRa18650 battery

Pump electricity fell by an average of 22 percent across eleven sites.

Pump vibration monitor

Reads motor vibration to catch a failing bearing before it stops suddenly. Thresholds come from the first two weeks on that machine, not from a manual.

ESP32ADXL345 accelerometerLoRa24 V supply

Three failures caught early at one factory, two of them over a weekend.

Nine years

  1. 2020 to now

    Freelance engineer

    Independent, Surabaya

Designing and installing monitoring for warehouses, small factories, housing complexes, and boarding schools across East Java.

  2. 2018 to 2020

    Hardware engineer

    An automation company

Control boards for packaging machines. Here I learned that a device an operator cannot fix is a device that dies for good.

  3. 2016 to 2018

    Technician

    An electrical contractor

Installing panels and pulling cable in factories. Every installation habit I have comes from those years.

Tell me what needs watching

Say what you want measured, where it is, and how far the nearest power point is. Those three usually tell me the shape of the device and its cost.
