Every film, on one timeline
Scroll and the timeline above runs: my films laid end to end at their own lengths, the sound beneath them, and the one on air lit in red. A cut like this decides whether a film exists or not.
Ten years, the countable part
Three films, written by their decisions
Blimbing morning market, 4 minutes
A portrait of a traditional market for the city government. The constraint was light: the market is most alive at four in the morning, when the lamps are yellow and any camera struggles.
Three consecutive mornings with one small light and fast 24 and 85 mm lenses. Released on twenty channels and still used by the city for tourism.
A school on the slope, 7 minutes
A primary school of twelve pupils facing closure. The hard part was not the filming but the permissions: minors, and not every parent agreed.
Seven of twelve families gave written consent, and the film was built to hold together without the other five. The school stayed open.
Kopi Ranu kitchen, 90 seconds
An advertisement for a small coffee roaster with a one day budget and no paid actors.
One day, 35 and 50 mm lenses, the owner himself on camera. Online sales rose 40 percent in the two months after release.

What I do not do
What is in the case handed over when the film is done
Ten years
-
2019 to now
Freelance videographer
Independent, Malang
Short films for local government, foundations, and small businesses. About eighteen films a year.
-
2017 to 2019
Editor
A production house
Cutting advertisements and short documentaries. Here I learned that a bad rough cut cannot be rescued by colour.
-
2015 to 2017
Camera assistant
A production house
Pulling focus and keeping footage notes. The habit of complete footage notes comes from there.
Ask about shoot dates
Tell me who you want filmed and why now. From that I can estimate how many shoot days and how long the film should be, before we talk about cost.
